When I first heard about the upcoming movie, “The Compass” from Marilyn Sargent, one of the film’s experts, a powerful picture of a group of paintings danced across my mind. While the picture was fleeting, the emotional charge remained. Experience has taught me to trust my subconscious visions but at the time my art was stagnant… I was without the faith needed to nurture those visions from the spiritual realm to the physical. As I gathered courage and concepts I made a lovely discovery: all that I have ever been has prepared me to create these works. The eight – one more to come - paintings, titled “Getting There,” are a confluence of all the art I have made in the last twenty years. They use the colors of the spectrum to describe how different states of emotion can both obscure and reveal our path toward the light. The works chronicle the personal and collective journey through thick and thin. They are a testimony to the conviction that following one’s inner compass will always lead to the light.
